Sunday Bites

Hello! I'm not really here - I'm in Budapest! This post was written on Friday and scheduled to appear now because I am very clever at the internet. And didn't want to deprive anyone of Sunday nonsense.

  • This week's outfit - a sensible (!!!) one for exploring the city - boots (buy me these), jeans, jumper, another jumper (y'know, for day 2), and a jacket. Oh, and only the best bag in the whole world.

  • I went on a date with a guy who works at the zoo, I think he's a keeper. Sorry. That joke is bad and an inappropriate introduction to a news article on an intern who was mauled to death by a 350-pound lion, wow.

  • I am working on these links today, Friday 8th March, which is International Women's Day. So you'll forgive me for posting a rightly haughty article on sexism in space. Does it still count as a glass ceiling if it passes out of earth's atmosphere, or do we need new terminology for that?

  • I need no recipe inspiration this week because I have a very full itinerary of gorging planned for Budapest. I'm going for Saturday lunch here, afternoon cake here, and dinner here. Then on Sunday I'm having lunch here and ice cream here. & then I'm going to be rolled onto the plane home. But, nonetheless, here are some internet links I pinned this week:
    • Glissade chocolate pudding - the story behind this recipe is so endearing, it's from a French children's cookbook and translates as 'slippery' pudding.
    • And oh.my.god chocolate cannolis. It's like someone reached into the deepest recesses of James' brain and found his ideal dessert (coincidentally, in time for his birthday...)
    • Cuban roast pork, or lechon asado, sounds like a dinner I'll need to experiment with asap.
    • This French Onion Tart pleases me because it gives me further ideas for how to consume caramelised onions (in pastry! inspired!) and gives notification of the UK publication of a cookbook I'm lusting over.

  • This is a really nicely written piece by Nora Ephron's son about the days leading up to her death. Skip to the last pages for some real tear-jerking paragraphs about love and grief and moving on.

  • Now, here's some quite harrowing news: Lola got a haircut. Lhasa Apsos have to get their hair cut every few months so we knew what to expect, and her hair was a bit matted... but... we weren't expecting this bald pup to come home.
